What is excellent about its blade is that it can tilt in both directions, which means that you do not have to adjust things. This ensures effortless precision. Moreover, its back fence design enables it to cut up to 2×12 and 2×16 pieces of wood at 45 degrees and 90 degrees, respectively.

Verdict:

Dewalt DWS779 is a great miter saw for working at job sites as it can withstand harsh situations. It is also durable and can last a whole day with you. Its ease of usage, perfect grip, and affordability are some of the many reasons why this is a great model to purchase.

What is the Difference Between them?

Speed:

The two miter saws are quite similar in the motor power. They both have 15-ampere motors that can turn the blade for 3800 times per turn. They can also handle plywood, plastic, and metals.

The only difference may be that with Dewalt DWS779, you can adjust the speed by which you need the blades to turn according to your needs.

Versatility:

The back fence design of Dewalt DWS779 enables it to cut up to 2×12 and 2×16 pieces of wood at 45 degrees bevel cuts and 90 degrees crosscuts, respectively. Moreover, the blade can tilt both ways -to the left and to the right. Add to this that this model provides accurate cuts due to its tall sliding fences with support crown molding up to 7.5 inches.

Dewalt DWS780, like Dewalt DWS779, can cut up 2×16 pieces of lumber at 90 degrees, and 2×12 at 45 degrees. Moreover, this model allows you to bevel starting from zero until you reach 45 degrees, and you can stop at 0, 22.5, 33.9, 45, and 49 degrees in both directions. It also provides you with easy adjustment because its miter tilts to 60 degrees to the right and 50 degrees to the left.

Precision:

Both models have a Cutline Blade Positioning System that provides an adjustment-free cut line indication. This ensures that the cuts you make are going to be accurate no matter what the material is and regardless of the angle you are cutting. Moreover, accuracy is ensured by the novel cutting mechanism and linear ball bearings.

The incredible feature of Dewalt DWS780 is the XPS crosscut positioning system that comes with ultra-bright LED light, which enable it to adjust free cuts. Note that the XPS light relies on its brightness; therefore, if you are in a place that has heavy light, either natural or artificial, this feature will not work.

Moreover, the tall sliding fence supports, the excellent back fence design, and the dented plate with cam lock ensure the effortless production of accurate and precise cuts.

To conclude, the only precision feature that Dewalt DWS779 lacks is the LED light. Dewalt DWS779 has a traditional laser guide, but it can move out of alignment by time or with each use. However, the XPS system always allows you to have perfect alignment. The XPS is an essential feature for beginners, but if you are a practitioner, you can do without it.

Price:

Dewalt DWS780 is way more expensive than Dewalt DWS779. This may be because of the LED laser light, which, in my opinion, is worth this massive difference because it guarantees precise alignment and safety, especially if you are not a professional expert.

Stands:

Both of them have no stands. However, if you want, you can install either of them on a compatible miter saw stand to have stability and accuracy.

Safety Precautions:

Before using any miter saw, you should read the safety precautions in its manual. I will inform you of some of the safety precautions you should follow when using any kind of miter saws.

Dewalt DWS779 Vs. DWS780: Which is Better Overall?

By now, we know that both models are quite similar in almost all their aspects, except for the price and LED laser light.

So, if money is not a big deal for you, you should buy Dewalt DWS780, for its LED light guarantees that your work will never be out of alignment and that you will always be safe.

However, if you cannot pay the considerable difference in price, then do not feel down. Most practitioners can do without the XPS system without feeling any difference.

The most important things to consider besides your safety, are the motor power and blades, and since they are similar, then there is no huge difference between the two models.
